A Net-Zero Neighborhood in the Desert
Opened in 2016 by Diamond Developers, The Sustainable City is a 46-hectare community of around 500 villas plus apartments, designed to produce as much energy as it consumes through rooftop solar. It is one of the most fully realized low-carbon residential districts in the Gulf.
Car-Free, Solar-Powered
Cars are parked at the perimeter, leaving shaded, walkable streets. Villa rooftops carry solar panels feeding a shared grid; biodomes and green buffers cut heat and dust; wastewater is recycled for landscaping.
A Dubai That Grows Green
It proves that even in Dubai's extreme climate, a developer can build a genuinely green, near-self-sufficient neighborhood — a working precedent for the "vertical forest" and eco-city ideas at the scale of real homes.
