The City's Most Ambitious Question
Opened in February 2022 on Sheikh Zayed Road, the Museum of the Future was designed by Dubai-based Killa Design with Buro Happold engineering. Its silver torus form — a 77-meter ring with a hollow center — is one of the most complex buildings ever constructed.
A Facade Written in Light
The exterior is clad in 1,024 fire-retardant fiberglass panels, each individually cast. Covering them is a continuous ribbon of Arabic calligraphy by artist Mattar Bin Lahej — and every letter is a functioning window. Daylight enters only through the script, so the facade literally writes the interior's relationship with the sun.
Why the Hole?
The empty center represents the unknown. It is also a passive cooling feature: air flows through the opening, reducing heat absorbed in temperatures that exceed 45°C.
Not a Museum of Objects
It displays no artifacts. Its floors stage immersive experiences about future scenarios — from a digital Amazonian rainforest to a space station and a climate-adapted Dubai of 2071.
"The future is not a place we go — it is a place we create." — Inscribed on the building
